City and Township Adopt a Shared Community Plan
|
Elected officials for the City of Centerville and Washington Township have unanimously adopted a comprehensive community plan that is intended to guide the development and redevelopment of Centerville/Washington Township for the next 20 years.
The City & Township met jointly to adopt the plan
City Council and Township Trustees approved the plan at a joint meeting June 14 at Centerville City Council Chambers and appointed 19 members to a task force that will monitor implementation of the Create the Vision plan.
Their approval culminated nearly two years of research and planning on the part of the Create the Vision Steering Committee.
“Tonight is a very important step. But in many ways, the work is only beginning,” noted Jamie Greene, the Columbus consultant who has helped guide the city and township through the 22-month process. The implementation task force now will be responsible for overseeing implementation of the plan’s eight goals, nine study areas, 51 objectives and 198 strategies.
Greene was among a number of people involved in the project who spoke at the two-hour meeting. Prior to voting on the community plan, elected officials listened to steering committee members present highlights from the community plan, then opened the meeting to comments by the public.
Tom Zobrist from the township and Brooks Compton from the city will chair the implementation task force which is comprised of three subcommittees: Land Use and Community Appearance; Parks and Recreation, Community Services and Education; and Economic Development, Transportation and Utilities. The task force includes some new members and also some who are original to the 33-member steering committee.
