Questions?

Q:  What is CREATE THE VISION?
A: CREATE THE VISION is a community process that has involved citizens, businesses, organizations, and local government officials in a cooperative effort to plan for the future of Centerville and Washington Township. These groups worked together with the community at large to formulate goals in the areas of land use and development, transportation services, and other aspects of the community. The end result has been the adoption of a new community plan that outlines steps for implementing these goals over the next 20 years.

Q:  Why did the community seek to produce and adopt a new community plan?
A: Both the City of Centerville and Washington Township have adopted community plans in the past. These plans were adopted either prior to or during the major growth years of the community. Today, both jurisdictions have matured to the point that the former plans do not adequately address issues that are relevant now and in the future. A new plan was needed for the community that addressed these issues, but did so in a manner that respected the interests of both jurisdictions.

Q:  Who was behind CREATE THE VISION?
A: A steering committee, consisting of residents, business owners, major property owners, school and community organization representatives, and Centerville and Washington Township officials developed and guided the planning process. A planning consultant assisted with the process and prepared the plan document once the committee finalized the content.

Q:  What will happen now that the plan has been adopted?
A: Implementation of the Community Plan will take place over a number of years and will be the responsibility of all who contributed to the plan. A Task Force has been appointed to monitor implementation. Many objectives and strategies will require action by local government, while other portions of the plan affect public bodies such as the park district, historical society, public schools, businesses and others.

Q:  Who paid for the plan?
A: The City of Centerville and Washington Township were the primary sponsors of the development of the plan. However, there will be a substantial investment of time and effort on the part of the community during its implementation phase to ensure its success.

Q:  Who is accountable for the plan?
A: The plan has been adopted separately by City Council and Township Trustees. Accordingly it will be used in making a wide variety of decisions. It also is important to note that the plan is the product of our community's vision, and that everyone who has a stake in Centerville and Washington Township will be accountable for its success. This plan will only be effective if the community itself works to achieve its goals.

Q:  How can I get more information?
A: You can get more information by contacting either Steve Feverston, City of Centerville, at 937-433-7151 or Gary Huff, Washington Township, at 937-433-0152.
